Are you building a new building? Or remodeling an old one? Upgrading security systems? Well this page is designed to help you understand the different Grades of hardware.

Grade 1 is heavy duty commercial, Grade 2 is light commercial duty and Grade 3 is residential. The three most common decision factors between the Grades are usage cycle rates, branded or private label and price. Note, all Grades have a 3 hour UL fire rating. Below is a table comparing the different elements to help make a decision on the appropriate hardware solution for your need.

Item/Grade Usage Cycle Rates Branded MSRP Price ($) Private Label MSRP Price ($)
Levers & Knob
Grade 1 800,000 515 215
Grade 2 400,000 261 130
Grade 3 200,000 110 25
